About Us

The Meadows of Napa Valley is owned by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs (IOOF), one of the oldest Fraternal Orders in the world. The facility was originally built in 1988 as a private residential retirement center. In 1992, the IOOF purchased the Meadows and immediately added an Assisted Living program for residents who need a little help with the activities of daily living. In 1995, the Meadows Care Center was built, offering residents skilled nursing and rehabilitation services on campus.

Though the Meadows of Napa Valley is owned by the IOOF, one does not need to be a member of the Order to live there. The Odd Fellows is an organization dedicated to serving others, and it welcomes everyone to enjoy the Meadows lifestyle.

The IOOF has a long history of serving others. This commitment to serving others is at the heart of the Odd Fellows' philosophy and is expressed by its organizational motto: "Friendship, Love, and Truth." For more than two centuries, members of the IOOF have demonstrated their commitment to these values by providing care and comfort to homeless children, the poor, and the elderly. At the Meadows, this commitment is reflected in all aspects of the Meadows' lifestyle--from the comfortable accommodations to the excellent health care and array of fine services and amenities.

The IOOF's roots are grounded in eighteenth century England, where it was conceived as a means for ordinary men to come together to promote social unity and fellowship for the good of mankind. The Odd Fellows first came to America in 1819, settling in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1851, they adopted the Rebekah degree, making them the first national fraternity to include both men and women in their membership. In 1872, the IOOF opened a shelter for elderly citizens and orphaned children in Pennsylvania, making them the first fraternal organization in the U.S. to establish such a home. Since coming to the U.S., the IOOF has had a powerful presence in California. There are currently 400 active lodges in California, all of which support several charitable organizations and public service groups.
